You will get the highest price by 10-20% on ebay, but it takes a couple weeks to get payment and there is a slight change of fraud. For a fast sale check your phone book for a local coin dealer. You can expect to receive the bullion price of the gold. You can also sell gold at http://www.kitco.com. They are very reputable.

call around and tell the dealers your looking for one for your dad, see what they will sell you for one , then tell them youll give them 2 for 70% of that price take nothing less… theyll tell you they are not in a decent condition…. remember theres a million of these cats … and they do buy on ebay … use ebay as a price guide as well …

A company in the precious metals industry, specializing in such collectible coins, can have their in-house numismatist valuate the coins to determine what they would pay for them.

If there isn’t one locally (see link listing members of the American Numismatic Association), a local coin collector vendor might be able to give just as good an offer.

If the coins are packaged and already have an official grade assigned to them (for example, certified independently by PCGS), then it saves you the trouble of that process leaving it a matter of negotiation with the coin vendor you choose.

The value is more when the coin is unused (i.e., uncirculated) free of wear and scratches. Since the value of gold and silver fluctuate, one cannot guarantee an offer will be higher or lower over an extended period.

If calling a coin vendor, be wary of being put on a phone list, as you’ll likely be connected to a trained sales rep who has to accumulate a minimum number of minutes on the phone (commission only job). Recommend you ask to be on a do not call list, should you choose a vendor out of state.
