On January 15, 2008, the U. S. Mint created the American Bald Eagle commemorative coin. The pieces were created to signify the importance of the bald eagle as the national symbol of the United States of America, the land, skies and waterways, the recovery and restoration of the eagle, and celebrate the 35th anniversary of Endangered Species Act of 1973.
